Mercy Kitomari started making ice cream in 2011, inspired by London's vibrant ice cream scene. With a business background and training from an Italian chef, she brought her dream to Dar es Salaam. After impressing chefs with her unique flavors, she knew ice cream was her future.
By 2013, she founded Nelwas Gelato, promoting her brand tirelessly at trade shows and events. She developed signature flavors like Baobab Sorbet and Chocolate Chili, and opened her first shop in a busy Swahili restaurant.
